No, Kim Kardashian Isn’t Suing Lana Del Rey — Here’s What’s Really Going On

Rumors have been flying that Kim Kardashian is taking legal action against pop star Lana Del Rey — but the truth is far less dramatic.

It all started when online chatter suggested Kardashian was suing Lana for $1 million after the singer participated in a 2024 Valentine’s Day campaign for SKIMS, Kim’s shapewear brand. According to the rumor mill, the issue stemmed from Lana allegedly not tagging her Instagram posts as paid promotions, which supposedly drew attention from the National Advertising Division.

But Lana herself shut down the gossip. Commenting on an Instagram post by podcast host Sloan Hooks, she wrote, “No no, this isn’t happening. Not as far as either one of us know.” She added that if anything official ever did arise due to advertising guidelines, they’d handle it — but there’s “never an end to a friendship” between her and Kim.

TMZ also stepped in, quoting a source close to the situation who called the lawsuit rumors “categorically false.”

Kim’s Real Legal Issue Involves a Case of Mistaken Identity

While the rumored drama with Lana is just that — a rumor — Kim Kardashian is actually facing a different legal issue.

NBC News reports that Kim is being sued after she mistakenly used a photo of the wrong person on Instagram while highlighting her advocacy for criminal justice reform. The post was meant to bring awareness to the case of Ivan Cantu, a Texas death row inmate who was executed on February 28, 2024. But the photo she posted was of another man — also named Ivan Cantu — who lives in Westchester, New York and has no connection to the crime.

Kim’s lawyer acknowledged it was an honest mistake, saying the photo was removed immediately after the error was discovered.

Still, the New York man is now suing Kim in Los Angeles Superior Court. He claims her post subjected him to “hatred, contempt, and/or ridicule,” and says he’s suffered emotionally — citing anxiety, PTSD, and a loss of reputation. The lawsuit accuses Kardashian of libel, slander, invasion of privacy, and misrepresenting him in a false light. He’s seeking both compensatory and punitive damages, with the final amount to be determined by the court.
